For the 2012-13 school year, the Woodbury City Public Schools was awarded a grant that amounted to approximately $70,000 to participate in the Year 2 cohort for the Excellent Educators for New Jersey (EE4NJ) program. Our involvement allowed the district to get a head start on what is now a state-wide requirement for all districts in 2013-2014 and also provide significant funding to underwrite the costs. Most importantly, the pilot participation provided Woodbury a voice in the conversation that guided the final format of what is now called AchieveNJ.


The Woodbury City Public School District Evaluation Advisory Committee (DEAC) includes a school board representative; the superintendent; elementary, middle, and high school teachers; principals; our data coordinator; and parents. This committee represents the stakeholders of the district and meets monthly to discuss challenges and provide feedback regarding the implementation and development of the new district evaluation program. With guidance from the NJDOE, Woodbury City Public School’s DEAC receives information that helps our efforts to implement the evaluation program. During the course of the 2013-14 school year, a new district Leadership Council was formed out of the DEAC. Thus, the Leadership Council now performs as part of its functions the tasks associated with the state mandated DEAC.

Each district was allowed to choose a teacher and school leader evaluation program to utilize in order to comply with the expectations of AchieveNJ. Woodbury City Public Schools chose the Marzano Art and Science of Teaching model for teachers -- chosen for the four domains that will help focus teaching and learning on ways to improve the quality of instruction to all students. The district also chose to use the Marzano School Leadership Evaluation Model for principals and assistant principals.
