Nurse
Health Information
The School Nurse Emergency Card is sent home when school starts for parents to fill out. The card requests information on health problems, allergies, and medications, along with telephone numbers and emergency contacts. Health information is confidential, unless you give permission for me to share it with your child’s teacher.
Medication at School
If your child needs to take medicine in school, we need a signed prescription from the doctor and signature of a parent. Medication forms are available in the Health Office. This includes not only prescription medication, but also over the counter medicines including cold medicines, etc. Medicines must be brought to the Health Office by the parent/guardian in their original containers, and can be administered only by the Nurse or the parent.
The exceptions are Acetoaminophen (Tylenol), Ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin), and Maalox. You can give permission on the Emergency Card for these to be administered as needed.
Return to School After Illness
Please do not send your child to school if he/she has had a fever over 100 or vomiting during the previous 24 hours. Children can return to school after treatment is started for some infections, such as impetigo and pink eye; and 24 hours after treatment is started for strep throat. Please call and inquire if in doubt.
My goal is to keep the lines of communication open. I will call you if your child visits my office for a reason that I think you should know about. Please be sure to call me if you have any questions or concerns.
Before you leave, check out the links to the left. They have lots of great information!
