A Message From the Principal

Dear Friends,

Welcome to Evergreen Avenue Elementary School. We strive to create a caring school community where every child feels safe, loved, celebrated, and challenged. We believe students are individuals with unique strengths and talents who need to be known and have fun. Expectations for student achievement are high. The staff at Evergreen work to ensure we fulfill our mission – to be leaders in personalizing this educational experience – by helping our students find the self-satisfaction in knowing they made the effort to become the best of which they are capable. Our teachers are experienced, warm, and caring individuals who love what they do each day.

Our curriculum is rich and diverse. Our language arts program incorporates best practices as based on current literacy research and is structured around Readers and Writers Workshop at the K-2 level and Wit and Wisdom at the 3 - 5 level.. These all important skills permeate every aspect of instruction. Similarly, our math program emphasizes the application of mathematics to the real world. Skills and concepts are linked to situations and contexts pertinent to our children and not in isolation; our main resource is Eureka Math.

Our science curriculum is inquiry based, challenging students to think deeply. With a geographic focus, teachers approach social studies through the lens of the physical environment. Technology is integrated into instruction with 1:1 Chromebooks in grades 2-5 and an iPad cart for students in PreK - 2. With these devices, our teachers integrate and connect subject areas whenever possible, demonstrating to students that the world is complex, diverse, and intertwined. Our professional staff collaborates regularly to revise the curriculum designing activities that promote differentiation of instruction. Our students are also exposed to a variety of special areas including choral music, band, art, world language, and physical education.

Our Parent Teacher Organization is second to none. Volunteers vigorously support every facet of the school program including trips, classrooms, clubs, and the many activities that take place during the year. Working in concert with staff, the PTO provides additional resources to aid teachers and students. Please consider joining your talents to their efforts furthering strengthening the home-school partnership.
