Joseph Jones Named South Jersey Regional Superintendent of the Year

Woodbury, New Jersey – October 7, 2015.  Woodbury City Public Schools is pleased to announce that Superintendent Joseph Jones, who was named Gloucester County Superintendent of the Year in June, was recently named South Jersey Regional Superintendent of the Year by the New Jersey Association of School Administrators.

“It is an honor to be recognized,” Superintendent Jones said. “I am very fortunate that our district has been able to accomplish many positive things for our students due to a strong team of dedicated individuals working together. This recognition speaks to the uncompromising commitment that our faculty and staff have to achieving the school district mission to be a leader in personalizing education for the children of Woodbury.”

Mr. Jones was appointed Superintendent of the Woodbury City Public Schools in March 2005 and began his official duties August 1, 2005. His goal for the Woodbury schools is to capitalize on the personalized learning experiences available in order to ensure a high quality education for all students.

Mr. Jones’ teaching career began at Woodbury Junior-Senior High School in January 1986. He later became the Supervisor for Business & Mathematics at his alma mater, Kingsway Regional, in 1989. His next administrative position was in the Gloucester Township School District as assistant principal at the Glen Landing Middle School in 1992.

From 1993 through 2005, Mr. Jones worked at the Northern Burlington County Regional School District. He was the high school principal for 10 years and then served as the assistant superintendent for the district.

Mr. Jones was recognized as the National Association of Secondary School Principals/MetLife New Jersey High School Principal of the Year in 2002. He served in a leadership role on the Cabinet of the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association for six years and is a past-president of the Burlington County Secondary Principals & Supervisors Association. In addition, he served on a committee organized by Assemblyman Malone to review practical arts education (2001) and was appointed by Governor McGreevy to serve on the Education Mandate Review Study Commission (2003). 

More recently, Mr. Jones is a past-president of the Gloucester County Superintendents Roundtable, serves on the Advisory Committee for the county Roundtable, is a member of the New Jersey Association of School Administrators Executive Committee, and is president of the NJASA Great Schools sub-committee (formerly Urban Superintendents).
