Students Visit Howard University

Denise Currie | April 11, 2017

In early April, our 8th graders visited Howard University in Washington, D.C.  This is the eighth straight year that our district has taken 8th graders on this field trip. It’s an excellent opportunity for students to see what college is like and get them thinking about their future as they prepare to enter high school in the fall. WHS alumna Dr. Deneen Long-White helps facilitate the visit. Dr. Long-White is a lecturer and adviser at Howard University in the Department of Health, Human Performance, and Leisure Studies.

Besides the annual visit to Howard University in 8th grade, our students also visit other college campuses in 4th (Rowan University) and 10th grade (The College of New Jersey). Plus, many students also take college trips as part of the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program. The district is very proud to regularly offer our students the opportunity to visit college campuses!
