The New Jersey Association of School Social Workers (NJASSA) was searching for someone to honor - someone who exemplifies the best of the profession through service and accomplishment. Woodbury’s response was to flood the mailbox of NJASSW with testimonials from individuals throughout Gloucester County whose lives had been changed for the better by our own Gloria Goode. Ms. Goode will be recognized as Social Worker of the Year for the powerful work she has done throughout Gloucester County at the annual National Association of Social Workers convention next week. Gloria Goode serves the Woodbury school district and the broader community of Woodbury in a manner that always focuses on what will help our students achieve success. Her continual work, dedication, and passion have been recognized locally for years. Congratulations Gloria; this community will continue to cherish the work that you do; and we enthusiastically celebrate this great honor with you!

But the main event was an inspiring talk given by Channel 6 News Anchor Tamala Edwards. Congratulations to everyone who was involved in this wonderful program!

It's not every day that a helicopter lands at Woodbury Junior Senior High School. But on January 29th it did, carrying Rutgers Coach Schiano, who wanted to offer Shawney Kersey a scholarship to play football. Last time we checked, Shawney was 'persuaded' but not yet 'committed.' Monday,

August 6, 2007 The Woodbury Public Schools have announced that a special Board of Education meeting will be held on Monday, August 13, at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Conference Room located in the Jr.-Sr. High School. The Board will be hearing a presentation from professionals – architect and engineers – regarding an update on the structural status of the Walnut Street Elementary School. This report is the result of investigatory work determining the scope of repairs needed for the foundation supporting the oldest portion of the school building. This purpose of the investigation was to result in a recommendation for possible repair or replacement of this foundation. The formal report associated with this investigatory work is still being prepared, but preliminary indications are that significant structural concerns associated with the oldest part of the school will require the Board’s immediate attention. Currently, independent work on a new HVAC system is being completed. The contractor completing this work and other district personnel assigned to the Walnut Street Elementary School have been advised of the preliminary concerns. Temporarily, entrance to the school will be along Chestnut Street by the all-purpose room. Joseph Jones, Superintendent, indicated that, “These new concerns are an outgrowth of work the district was undertaking to complete maintenance efforts associated with the oldest section of the building. The administration and board are disappointed that the early indication points to significant structural concerns needing attention.” Frank Gwalthney,
Board President, stated, “The Board supported
the efforts of residents this past school year to maintain our instructional
program at the Walnut Street School. It is unfortunate that we now face
a new hurdle. The full board awaits the final report and recommendation
that will be received at the August 13th meeting.”
