Here
within the Woodbury City Public Schools, we believe that
there is no career more noble than the field of education.
As educators we not only teach basic academic competencies
but also teach life lessons that help develop our students
into young individuals of moral character. In doing so we
help to shape society and prepare our students for a future
full of potential and success. We, as a district, would like
to honor the following teachers as representatives of all
the wonderful teachers in our district who work hard and
tirelessly to provide for the students of Woodbury the best
education possible.

How wonderful that Mr. Soper’s first male teacher inspired him by bringing out the personalities and energy of the students, while also integrating technology. That is specifically how students and parents describe Mr. Soper. He is able to inspire his students and help them develop a love for learning that some students may not have had previous to meeting Mr. Soper. His talent is multi-faceted and is demonstrated daily in the way he brings learning to life, with the help of technology, in particular the classroom SMARTBOARD. Mr. Soper is in his first year as a fifth grade teacher and has made quite an impression in terms of his ability to connect with his students and bring out the best in them. One can only imagine what the future holds for one of Woodbury’s young, bright, educators. Evergreen celebrates Mr. Soper and the impact he’s already making with our students. |

It is with great excitement that we announce Mrs. Yoroshko as the Walnut Teacher of the Year. As the school nurse Mrs. Yoroshko tirelessly takes care of not only the students but the entire staff of the Walnut Street School. Students, as well as faculty, know that whenever they are not feeling 100%, Mrs. Y is there to provide some TLC. Whether it is bandaging a knee, putting some ice on a bump on the head, a quiet place to lie down or just a friendly ear for a chat, Mrs. Y is there with a smile on her face. Always willing to lend a hand and provide support in and outside of the nurses’ office, Mrs. Y helps make Walnut a special place. Congratulations, Mrs. Yoroshko!

Several years ago, the concept of diverse learners created opportunity for teachers to use many different new strategies to provide sound instruction to students. Some of us “wait to see” if a new technique works – Susan Berting, however, takes every opportunity to try something new for her students. The end result – a classroom with high energy and motivated students – excited to learn something new. If you can feel it, see it, hear it, or smell it – its science!
Visit Mrs. Berting’s science class on any given day and you can feel the energy moments before you arrive to see it in action! The connection Susan makes with every child is personal and relevant. Our children and our entire school family are encouraged by the work that Susan does in and out of her classroom every day. She is a great model for all who inhabit our school community. Congratulations Susan, on being named the Teacher of the Year for 2010!

“contributions”; “special talent”; “…inspiring a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and abilities”
These words are used in the State’s description of the educator named as teacher of the year; and all are fitting to describe Dianne Clement.
Dianne has a special talent for connecting with students – all students; her contributions reach far beyond the school day in the work that she does through our co-curricular programs – the ones she is officially assigned to and several others where she simply and graciously lends her time and expertise to help. Our students show their appreciation for the work that she does by making her classes one of the most popular electives offered in our academic program. It is clearly because of her ability to inspire a love of learning in students – all students. The entire Woodbury family is very pleased that Dianne Clement has been recognized as the Teacher of the Year for 2010; she is truly an inspiration to all of us—her work is greatly valued. Congratulations Dianne! |
