Here
within the Woodbury City Public Schools, we believe that
there is no career more noble than the field of education.
As educators we not only teach basic academic competencies
but also teach life lessons that help develop our students
into young individuals of moral character. In doing so we
help to shape society and prepare our students for a future
full of potential and success. We, as a district, would like
to honor the following teachers as representatives of all
the wonderful teachers in our district who work hard and
tirelessly to provide for the students of Woodbury the best
education possible.

Congratulations to a very special Woodbury kindergarten teacher
who has just been named Teacher of the Year from Walnut Street
School: Theresa Richman.
Perhaps Robert Fulghum was thinking of this wonderful woman when he wrote:
“Most
of what I really need to know about how to live, and what to
do, and how to be, I learned in Kindergarten. Wisdom was
not at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the
sandbox at nursery school.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go out into the world, watch for traffic, hold hands, and stick together.
Be aware of
wonder. Remember the little seed in the plastic cup? The roots
go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows
how or why, but we are all like that…”

The middle-level
student is unique and phenomenal. So is Robyn Sole, our 2007
Teacher of the Year for the Woodbury Junior High
School. Robyn makes the most of every moment of instruction and
challenges her students to use their full capacity of their ever-developing
intellect. The “Sole” classroom is inviting, encouraging,
and inspiring, an environment in which students flourish and succeed – continually!
Every middle school student deserves a Robyn Sole; our students
and this community are the beneficiaries of her skillfulness, enthusiasm
for, and commitment to the success of our students. Congratulations
again, Robyn!

It is no surprise
that Dave Snelling was selected as the 2007 Teacher of the Year
for the Woodbury High School. Every highly
effective school consists of teachers with the magnetism to lead
students to achieve far beyond their acknowledged limitations.
Mr. Snelling works the Three R’s in every minute of the day
with the students assigned to his charge as well as students who
know him simply by name and reputation. Students are drawn to his
ability to implement rigor, relevance, and relationships that inspire
and motivate. We are truly fortunate to have him here at Woodbury
High School. I am especially appreciative of everything that he
does for students and this entire Woodbury learning community.
Congratulations again, Dave!
