| The Woodbury Junior/Senior High School Office of Curriculum and
Instruction would like to invite you to spend some time exploring
this area of the district website to discover how our mission is
evident in the learning of students and of teachers. Knowing the
content of what students and their teachers study is important so
that parents and guardians are better equipped to help their children
achieve to their fullest potential, especially during the hours outside
of school.
Discovering and developing talent is something that we value
in every room of these historic halls, a site of great tradition
and innovation. The school day is a time when young people prepare
for their eventual entry into the worlds of higher education
and work. Our teachers specialize in training children to set
goals and to work to help them achieve their goals.
We take pride in the richness and variety of course offerings
that are available to our students. Please take some time to
look at the curricular materials on the courses your child is
taking. Many of our recently updated courses are available for
review, and more will be added as materials are written, revised
and updated. Our curriculum is designed to meet every student’s
educational needs as required by the New Jersey Core Curriculum
Content Standards. We start from the standards in each subject
and build from a foundation of essential questions or ideas that
drive the teaching and learning activities that students experience
in the course.
At Woodbury we believe that every one of our students deserves
the best education possible, so we invest a lot of time and effort
into designing a program of professional development that places
our teachers at the top of the field when it comes to research-based
instructional practice. Currently our focus is on improving literacy
and effective communication skills in every course we teach.
All teachers are receiving support in using specific strategies
to help students improve their communication skills in the subjects
of English, mathematics, science, social studies, related arts,
health and physical education, world language and technology.
Our students write regularly and frequently, receiving feedback
from teachers on areas of strength and areas needing extra attention.
It is our hope that you will participate actively in your child’s
efforts by talking to him or her about learning each day, by
helping with homework, and by overseeing study habits. You are
an important partner in the education of the youth of our community.
