·        Joanne Saradacus, student council representative, gave an update on student council happenings.

1.      Approval of Minutes

RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the Minutes of the Board of Education Meetings held on August 23, 2005 and August 25, 2005.

2.      Secretary’s Report

                        RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the July and                        August Secretary’s Reports.  (Exhibit 06-10)

 

 

3.      Treasurer’s Report

RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the July and August Treasurer’s Reports in accordance with 18A:17-36 and 18A:17-9 for the months of July and August, 2005.  The Treasurer’s Report and the Secretary’s Report are in agreement for the months of July and August, 2005.   (Exhibit 06-11)

 

4.      Transfers

RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the transfers in line accounts in accordance with the lists submitted.  (Exhibit 06-12)

5.      Payment of Bills

RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the payment of bills without exception.  (Exhibit 06-13)

 

6.      Revenue Amounts/Sources

RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education recognizes the Board Secretary’s certification, in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6A:23-2.11c2, that there are no changes in anticipated revenue amounts and revenue sources.

 

7.      Certifications

a)   Secretary’s Report

Board Secretary’s Report in accordance with 18A:17-36 and18A:17-9 for the months of July and August, 2005.  The Board Secretary certifies that no line item account has been over-expended in violation of N.J.A.C. 6A:23-2.11c 3 and that sufficient funds are available to meet the district’s financial obligations for the remainder of the fiscal year. 

b)   Board of Education Certification

            The Woodbury Board of Education hereby certifies, pursuant to N.J.A.C.                                6A:23-            2.11c4, that after review of the secretary’s monthly financial                                     report             (appropriations section) and upon consultation with the appropriate                  district officials, that to the best of our knowledge no major accounts or                              fund has been             over-expended in violation of N.J.A.C. 6A:23-2.11c and                               that sufficient funds are available to meet the district’s financial                                                 obligations for the remainder of the fiscal year.

a)   RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby accepts the letter of resignation from Anne Hawkins, Teacher of Technology/Tutor at Walnut Street School, effective August 22, 2005.

b)   RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby accepts the letter of resignation from Carroll Howell, Special Education Teacher at Woodbury Jr.-Sr. High School, effective August 31, 2005.

 

2.      Employment

 

      a)      RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the       employment of Dawn Ensign as Teacher of Special Education at the Jr.- Sr. High       School, effective September 6, 2005.  Mrs. Ensign will be placed on Step B-3 of       the 2005-06 teachers’ salary guide. 

      b)      RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the       employment of Audrey Barbera as Interim Teacher of English at the Jr. High       School, effective September 8, 2005 through December 9, 2005.  Mrs. Barbera       will be compensated at the rate of $125.00 per day.

      c)      RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the       employment of Nora Taylor as the elementary Teacher of Enrichment, effective       October 3, 2005.  Mrs. Taylor will be placed on Step M-1 of the 2005-06       teachers’ salary guide.

      d)      RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the       employment of Gina Faraone as Interim Teacher of English at the Jr. High       School, effective 10/31/05 – 2/3/06.  Miss Faraone will be compensated at the rate       of $125.00 per day.

      e)      RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the       employment of Carla Branyan as a Teacher of ESL, effective October 3, 2005.        This will be a change of assignment for Mrs. Branyan from Tutor to       Teacher and she will be placed at Step 10, B+15, .6 FTE, of the 2005-06 teachers’       salary guide.

5.      Horizontal Move on the Salary Guide

 

                  RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves a horizontal                      move on the salary guide, effective with the settlement of the 2005-06 contract, for                   teachers as follows:

6.      Increase in Teacher’s Schedule

 

      RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves an increase the teaching contract of Susan Dougherty from .16 FTE to .32 FTE.

 

7.      Assignment of a Seventh Academic Class

 

RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves a stipend in the amount of $1,945.00 for Donna Lacovara’s 60 day temporary assignment to a seventh academic class, AP English 12.  This stipend will be paid in December in accordance with the Woodbury Education Association contract.

 

8.      Compensation for Read 180 Training – 2005-06

 

      RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves compensating Mrs. Yael Emenecker for three hours at the Special Projects Rate for conducting Read 180 training. 

 

9.      Extra-Curricular Appointments – 2005-06

           

a)      RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby rescinds the             extra-curricular appointment of Janet Hughes as Chairperson for the Related       Arts/Business/Technology Departments for the 2005-06 fiscal year.

12.      Correction to Hours of Alternative School Staff – 2005-06

 

RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the correction of the number of weekly hours for the following Alternative Program teachers for the 2005-06 fiscal year:

                        Mark Napoleon – Guidance (6 hours per week)

                        Mark Napoleon – Social Studies (9 hours per week until replacement is hired)

                        Daniel O’Leary – Special Education (16 hours per week)

13.      Pre-School Testing

 

      RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves compensating the following teachers for administration of the Brigance Test to pre-school students.  Compensation will be at the Special Projects Rate.

16.      Family Math Nights – 2005-06

 

RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the following instructors for Family Math Nights to be held at West End School on four nights during the 2005-06 school year.  Compensation will be at the Special Projects Rate for four hours per event.

      RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves a salary increase for Melody Arno, Athletic Trainer, effective August 15, 2005.  Ms. Arno is a non-unit part-time employee who works August 15, 2005 through June 15, 2006.  She was incorrectly listed as a non-tenured teaching staff member on the April 2005 agenda.

            2.            Employment

                       

a)   RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the employment of George Jordan as a Tutor at Woodbury Jr.-Sr. High School, commencing September 7, 2005.  Mr. Jordan will be employed for       29 hours per week, with compensation at the rate of $16.00 per hour, 183 day school year.

b)   RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the employment of Leslie Lockett as a Special Education Aide at Woodbury Jr.-Sr. High School, commencing September 7, 2005.  Miss Lockett will be employed for 29 hours per week, with compensation at Step 4-Sub. Cert. of the 2005-06 Aides Salary Guide, 183 day school year.

c)   RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the employment of Karen Whitman as a Tutor at Evergreen Avenue School, commencing September 7, 2005.  Ms. Whitman will be employed for 29 hours per week, with compensation at the rate of $16.00 per hour, 183 day school year.

d)   RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the employment of Doreen Ranck as a Tutor at Walnut Street School, commencing September 7, 2005.  Mrs. Ranck will be employed for 20 hours per week, with compensation at the rate of $16.00 per hour, 183 day school year.

e)   RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the employment of Christina Worthington as a Pre-school Aide at Evergreen Avenue School, commencing September 7, 2005.  Ms. Worthington will be employed for 20 hours per week, with compensation at Step 5-Degree of the 2005-06 Aides Salary Guide, 183 day school year.

f)    RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the employment of Heather McCumber as a Lunch Aide at Walnut Street School, commencing September 8, 2005.  Ms. McCumber will be employed for 2 ½ hours per day, with compensation at Step 1-Lunch Aide Salary Guide.

g)   RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the employment of Christopher Spina as the Student Adjustment Center Monitor  at Woodbury Jr.-Sr. High School, commencing October 3, 2005.  Mr. Spina will be employed for five hours daily following the student calendar at the rate of $125.00 per day.

h)   RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the continued employment of Alan Ramsey, Grounds Supervisor, for the 2005-06 fiscal year, at a 4% increase in salary.

i)    RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the employment of the following substitute custodians substitute custodian for the 2005-06 fiscal year:

j)    RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education approves the employment of Maureen Duncovich as a Tutor at Evergreen Avenue School, commending October 3, 2005.  Mrs. Duncovich will be employed for 29 hours per week, with compensation at $16.00 per hour, 183 day school year. 

 

3.      Withdrawal of Request for Leave of Absence

 

RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the withdrawal of a request for a Leave of Absence from Mrs. Elizabeth C. Murphy, Secretary to the Director of Athletics/Activities, for the period of September 1, 2005 through November 30, 2005.

 

4.      Non-Unit Central Office Secretarial Employees Salaries – 2005-06

 

                  RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves a 4%                                           increase for the 2005-06 school year for the following non-unit Central Office                                       secretarial employees:

2.      Long Range Facilities Plan

 

      RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the submission of the five-year 2005 Long-Range Facilities Plan to the State Department of Education.

a)   RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves a change order in the amount of $3,622 with Straga Brothers, Inc. to install new sliding glass doors in the trophy cases outside the auditorium as part of the renovation work.

b)   RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves a change order in the amount of $502.50 with Horizon Environmental Group, Inc. for additional fees that were required for environmental consulting at the High School for the flooring project. 

 

6.      Transportation Routes 2005-06

 

                  a)                  RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the                                              following transportation route costs for the 2005-06 fiscal year.  This                                                      transportation is provided by                   Gateway Regional School District as per the joint                                     transportation agreement approved by the Board of Education in April, 2005.

      RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves a contract from October 1, 2005 through September 30, 2006 with Tri County Termite & Pest Control in the amount of $250. per month.  Tri County Termite & Pest Control will provide integrated pest management services to the school district.

 

 

9.      Middle School Teacher Preparation Grant with Rowan University

 

      RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the Woodbury Public Schools participation in the New Jersey Consortium for Middle School Teacher Preparation Grant with Rowan University.

4.      Extended School Year Placement – One-on-One Teacher Assistants

 

a)   RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the contract with Hollydell School to provide a one-on-one teacher assistant for a student #0000009 who attended the extended school year program.  The total cost is $120.82 per diem for 30 days.

b)   RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves the contract with Gloucester County Special Services School District to provide a one-on-one teacher assistant for student #0001659 who attended the extended school year program.  The total cost is $118.50 per diem for 30 days.

 

5.      Hombeound Instruction

 

      a)      RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves providing       homebound instruction for student # 005298 from 9/26 – 10/24/05 for medical       reasons.    Dianne Clement is the tutor.

      b)      RESOLVED that the Woodbury Board of Education hereby approves contracting       with Daniels & Associates to provide homebound instruction services for the       2005-06 school year at the rate of $32.00 per hour.

            Everything we hear about injuries caused by turf – have we considered this?

            Is there anything that the citizens can do to help settle the teacher’s negotiations?

 

            Anthony Chiesa –

            A lot of programs have been cut over the years.  If Mrs. White wants to join the PTA or other organizations to do fundraising. 

 

            Susan Saradacus-

            Turf – If we decide this is the way to go, we need to make a very affirmative argument for this. 

 

            Mr. Clark – The referendum money was earmarked only for these projects.

           

            Mr. Goodrich – If we don’t spend the referendum money the money goes back to the taxpayers. 

 

            Mr. Jenkins – 345 Glover St. – Encourage the Board to move cautiously with contract negotiations.  Historically Woodbury has been very generous.  We need to hold these increases down.  Our tax rate is one of the highest in the State. 

 

            Turf Issue – Tough public relations sell with public.  He understands the maintenance benefits.

 

            Need binoculars from the track stands to see the track.

 

            Tom Lewis – If someone associates us with putting turf on field it may affect future budget votes.
