1.         OPENING STATEMENT                  

 

            The meeting of the Board of Education, City of Woodbury, was held on the above date. 

 

            Mr. Gwalthney opened the meeting at 6:20 PM and read the opening statements:

 

2.         OPEN PUBLIC MEETINGS ACT

 

            Public notice of this meeting pursuant to the Open Public Meeting’s Act has       been    given by the Board Secretary in the following manner:

 

            Faxing notice to the Gloucester County Times and to the Courier Post, and filing           written notice with the Clerk of the City of Woodbury on July 11, 2005.

DISCUSSION

 

·        Mr. Jones discussed his power point presentation which he made at the New Teacher Orientation this week.

 

·        The Board discussed starting the Process of Establishing Current Goals for the District.  Various topics were discussed as follows:

 

·        With such small schools, why aren’t we achieving?

 

·        Schools Attuned – Communicate that we have this.  Fifty percent of Evergreen teachers are not trained. 

 

·        District Collaboration – All schools should perform at an increased level. 

·        Need to study looping, reading recovery, multiage classrooms.

 

·        Grades 6-8 –Our worst performance is here.

 

·        Need to review the current after school detention is Grades 6-12. 

 

·        Consider reconfiguration of grade levels.

 

·        Change the mindset “we’re moving to another district after Grade 5”. 

 

·        28% of the kids in town go to private school.

 

·        We need a marketing plan.

 

·        Reassure parents of 3-5 grades that good things are happening in 6th grade.

 

·        Kids who are leaving would thrive in high school.

 

·        When are kids leaving?  Before entering 6th grade or during 6,7,8 grade’s/

 

·        Alternative financing – grants

 

·        Volunteer Uniforms

 

·        Superintendent goals to evaluate in April

 

·        School Year Goals

 

·        July and August – meeting to establish annual goals
