Important Safety Message

Today, the Woodbury City Police Department initiated a modified lockdown at the Woodbury Junior-Senior High School due to an incident that occurred outside of the school at approximately 9:40 am. Our staff and students followed our security procedures for a modified lockdown which lasted until approximately 10:10 am. We were informed that there was an individual with a possible weapon, however the police have confirmed that was not accurate and that the person was instead carrying an umbrella. The Woodbury Police Department, along with our School Resource Officer Villone and Officer Beyerle, assured us that at no time were Woodbury Junior-Senior High students in danger and further explained that it was not necessary for the school to implement any further security protocols. This is, however, a good time to reassure parents that the school’s safety procedures are sound and robust. Security drills are practiced monthly and the school safety plan is reviewed annually in consultation with the Woodbury City Police Department and county officials. Our staff is well prepared to handle any situation that may arise and will always put your child’s safety first. Woodbury schools have partnered with the police to train for crisis situations and know exactly what to do in cases of emergencies. Given the rarity of this type of incident in our community, we felt it was important to clarify the school’s response and to reassure everyone that there were no incidents in the school with any students or staff. Truly, your child’s safety is paramount. We are confident that our staff, detailed protocols, regular drills, and police partnerships have us well positioned now and in the future.

Please read the post from the police department below for further clarification.

Woodbury City Police Department- NJ

Please be advised the incident this morning was a miscommunication, the subject was holding a long black umbrella not a weapon. There were NO SHOTS fired as people are posting on their social media. The schools and hospital were locked down for a short period for safety precautions.
